We are excited to announce SoHum Yoga is moving! Over the next few days we will be moving into a beautiful space at 435 Melville in Garberville (near Amillia’s at the south end of town). Starting on Tuesday, October 15th, classes will be held in our new space. We are planning a festive grand opening in the near future. Come check out our sweet new studio!

About Our Studio:
SoHum Yoga Center is located in the Garberville / Redway community of Southern Humboldt County, California. The Studio opened in 2002 and has been a sacred space for our yoga community ever since. In 2016 we replaced the floor with a beautiful new cork floor and a non-toxic carpet for the entry and prop areas and we love it. We are fully stocked with every prop you might need from blocks to sticky mats and a whole lot more. All you have to do is show up. We offer classes for people just beginning their exploration of yoga, as well as classes for the seasoned yogi. We have teachers trained in many styles of yoga including Iyengar, Restorative yoga, Kundalini, Sivananda, and Svaroopa Yoga. . We have a couple of wonderful Pilates Teachers and movement and music classes for children.

Whether you are a novice who has wanted to try yoga as a relaxing and therapeutic practice, or you are an intermediate or experienced person looking to join a group session on a regular basis, we welcome you to come and visit any or all of our morning and evening classes.

Choice of Classes
At SoHum yoga we offer a wide variety of yoga classes. Every teacher is trained in a different style of yoga. The classes can vary a lot. Some are slow and relaxing and some are a more vigorous work out. Some focus more on the spiritual and meditative aspects of yoga and some classes focus more on the physical benefits a yoga practice can provide. It is a good idea for beginners to try out several different teachers until they find the right fit. If you are a more experienced yogi, keep in mind that different styles of yoga can be quite different. When checking out a different style of yoga it is always good to start at the beginning. We give each class a level to help you select the right class for you.
Level 1: For students new to yoga. Foundational movements and simple poses to help build a personal practice.
Level 2: For Students with at least 6 months experience in yoga who are ready to move into more complex postures, longer holds, and/or more vigorous vinyasa.
Level 3: For students with a well-established practice who are working on challenging postures involving strength, stamina and flexibility.
Restorative: For all levels of practitioner seeking gentle and simple movement, breath work, and relaxation.

Some Tips For Our New Guests:
- Please wear comfortable clothing. Our restroom doubles as a changing room.
- Bring your own Yoga Mat if you have one, if not, no worries, we have loaner mats and mats for sale.
- Come with an empty stomach and an open mind.
- Bring your own water, you might get thirsty.
- Class fees vary from $9-$15 drop-in, and most teachers offer quantity discounts. Please see your teacher if you have questions about fees.

The Creation Of SoHum Yoga
Sohum Yoga was created in 2002 by GaynaUransky and Toni Jones, and has enjoyed a loyal following of clientele and teacher contributors for many years.
Gayna’s study of yoga began in 1970 with a Hatha yoga class in Maryland. She then moved to San Francisco where she studied Iyengar yoga with Judith Lasater, Mary Dunn, and Ramanand Patel for many years, traveling several times to Pune, India to study directly with B.K.S. Iyengar.
She is a Certified Iyengar teacher. She has also studied Ashtanga yoga with K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. For 17 years she taught daily yoga classes at Heartwood Institute in Northern California. She also taught a 200-hour Yoga Alliance-certified Yoga Teacher Training at Heartwood Institute for many years.
